Violin Rental

A violin rental is a great idea for someone who is not sure that they are actually going to stick to it and play for a considerable amount of time. A violin rental is also the way to go if the one playing the violin is young and therefore growing and would grow out the violin that they are playing very quickly.

When considering a violin rental there are few things that one should keep in mind. One thing to look for is a company that gives you the option to either rent monthly or yearly. If you know that your violin rental is going to be for extended period of time renting for a year at a time is probably the route to go as the rental fee is probably going to be less on a monthly basis than would have been the case renting the violin for a month at a time.

Another option that is desirable when considering a violin rental is if the company providing the rental allows you the ability to rent to own. In this scenario a percentage of what you have paid so far goes toward the cost of buying the instrument outright. Look for places that will allow you to credit at least 2/3 of what you spent on the violin rental towards the actual purchase. This option is particulary good for those who really fallen in love with their instrument.

Also important is the ability to test the instrument before performing the actual violin rental. Ideally if you can have a professional or luthier (one who makes or repairs stringed instruments) inspect and try out the violin that would be great. A good instrument has clear sound, easy response, and minimal squeaking. A poor violin can sound scratchy, feel unresponsive, and be difficult to play. Ideally the instrument should be of hand-carved construction and made from spruce and maple.
