Look what I just won. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=170234500597&ssPageName= STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=007 It will make a nice instrument to leave at my camp when I go there on the weekends. Amazing what you can find in an old shop fiddle. |

I love a good bargain Don. I have watched auctions with that seller. I will be very interested to know your opinion of the instrument. |

You can do a lot worse than take a gamble on old German shop violins. Often they only need a little tweaking and minor adjustments and they pop to life. For $100.00 it is adequate to take camping. I will let you know how it sounds once I get it. To get a new instrument made with quality materials I would have to pay a lot more. |

Looks like nice wood. Seems they advertised a lot of cracks, but so what. Looks like a bargain of a lifetime and since you are experienced, you what what you have to do with it. Best of luck. |

Don, I'm more concerned with your experience dealing with the seller i.e. was it shipped quickly? Was it packed well? Did the instruments description match the auction description and photos? The tone of the violin itself will be personal to every player so like you said, for $100 you can't really go wrong unless the violin is in horrible condition or arrives damaged due to inadequate packaging. |

I have not got it yet. I am sure it will have its flaws, but I got it to leave at the camper for when we go up there. I don't want to take Liesette there. I will let you know how it turns out when it gets here. |

Instrument arrived today. It is a well put together 3/4 violin. Says Matthias Albanus on the label but it looks more like a little well proportioned Strad. The tone wood is very good and the carving is refined with nice purfling. The scroll is quite well done. It does need a properly carved and fitted bridge and the top right corner between the soundboard and the rib needs to be reglued. This stuff is all easily fixed. It is surprisingly resonant and sounds good considering the hack job bridge and open seem. It will pan out nice, what else do you want for the money. I am satisfied with it. |

Forgot to mention, the cracks are all repaired and stable. The seller was pretty accurate in her description of the instrument. |
