Professional Quartet Cellist on our Maestro and Soloist Cellos

A professional cellist has a student who is trying out two of our cellos - Maestro SE (Special Edition) and Soloist III - and he took the time to write to us, he was so impressed.  We'd like to share his thoughts

"Quartet cellist here--I recently had a chance to hear and play Maestro and Soloist III models from Stringworks. I'm seriously impressed by both cellos: even across their entire range with an open, attractive tone. The setups on both models are bang-on; notes very soft or loud consistently speak immediately (a challenge in the dead of winter); accurate fingerboard planing in all registers; very easy to play. My own cello eventually acquired these characteristics, but not until my local luthier had replaced the original soundpost, bridge, and endpin socket--quite the added cost! The staff's advertised descriptions of the celli's tonal personalities are accurate as well; Maestro is the darker model, Soloist III is the brighter model. These celli match and exceed the playing value offered by instruments I've encountered at twice their price. If this is your budget, you need to give them a trial. -Ryan Ash, cellist, Beo String Quartet"

It's all about the professional-level setup, folks!  Don't take our word for it - take Ryan's :)

Greetings to all. I have had the joy and good fortune of purchasing not one but two cellos from Todd, Evan and Stringworks over the past 20 years. My first instrument was their Soliist 1 and some years later, on a trip to my original home State of Illinois, I dropped in to visit their beautiful shop in Batavia, and fell in love with an even more striking Soloist III in a unique Cremona Gold varnish.

I am a passionate adult student of the cello, having played from 17 and still today at 69. Both Stringwork Cellos have brought me years of superb sound, joy in playing and pride of ownership. As a professional photographer and portrait artist, I am very visually sensitive and I only enjoy owning musical instruments that I find beautiful in appearence as well as sound. Both of my Stringworks Soloists cellos sit proudly on display in my music room, because they bring me pleasure as musical art objects as well as beautiful sounding cellos. One of my finest bows is also from Stringworks and like both cellos, was was an exceptional value.

Every online shopper should know that Stringworks is not a giant warehouse somewhere with a slick website and a tollfree number. It is a real string shop, housed in a beautiful 19th century home, owned by an accomplished professional cellist, managed daily by a talented musician and string instrument expert, and supported by a full time, superb luthier in house. I have had the joy of meeting all of them.

Todd and his staff have succeeded in bringing the warm service, great support and impressive selection of string instruments of a first class string shop to the entire country and abroad through their beautiful website and telephone support for those too far from the shop to travel.

Stringworks is a great company with whom to do business and to find “your” special instrument. I speak from personal experience and with great enthusisasm. Buy with confidence from this unique and highly regarded business, and become part of the “Stringworks family.” You won’t be sorry!

Sincerely,

Gary C Silber. (GCS )

What color varnish most appeals to you? Not everybody has preferences when it comes to their bowed stringed instruments, from model to setup (strings, bridge height) to fittings, but most do have a...
